Pai Scholarship. His PhD research, conducted under the guidance of Dr. M. Mukhyaprana Prabhu and in collaboration with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS),as a Senior Research Fellow under mentorship of Dr. Subhradip Karmakar focuses on gaining genomic and molecular insights into Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
Abhibroto’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biotechnology from St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, where he graduated with distinction in 2015. He then earned his Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Biotechnology with a First Division from the School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata, in 2017. His Master’s thesis was titled “Pseudo-phosphorylation of tau protein in Alzheimer’s disease,” completed under the mentorship of Dr. Subhas Chandra Bose Chinnathambi at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.
Following his postgraduate studies, Abhibroto joined Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, as a Research Fellow in the Department of Neurochemistry 2018, Here, he contributed to an NIH RO1 grant project titled “Using host response to Neurocysticercosis to develop novel, brain – imaging free diagnostics: US-India partnership.” He then transitioned to the industry, serving as a Junior Research Fellow & Consultant in the Department of Molecular & Respiratory Research at the Chest Research Foundation (CRF), Pune, from 2019. At CRF, under the leadership of Dr. Sundeep Salvi and Dr. Amit Agarwal, his work focused on post-translational modification of glutathione in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). He was nominated for the young scientist award from NAPCON 2019.
From February 2020 to July 2021, Abhibroto worked as a Junior Research Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. Under the mentorship of Dr. Subhradip Karmakar, he contributed to a project titled “Role of Carbon Monoxide signaling in trophoblast invasion in humans,” investigating the mechanism of Heme-oxygenase in preeclampsia, IUGR, and frequent miscarriage. He continues to be engaged with several other intramural projects at the AIIMS lab as a Senior Research Fellow from August 2024 to present. He is also involved in a project exploring the role of nuclear receptors in the pathogenesis of Gall Bladder Cancer as a Research Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry, AIIMS, New Delhi,
